Therapy Terms & Policies
Introduction
This page outlines the practical terms that support a safe and clear therapeutic relationship between you (the client) and Louise Connolly (the therapist), trading as Finding Your Way Psychotherapy.
Therapy works best when expectations are transparent. If anything here is unclear, we can talk it through before you book, or in your first session.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is central to psychotherapy. What you share in sessions is treated as private and will not be disclosed without your consent, except in specific circumstances where I have a legal or ethical duty to act.
Limits of confidentiality
Confidentiality may be broken if:
- There is a serious risk of harm to you or to another person.
- There is a child protection concern, or a concern relating to a vulnerable person.
- I am required by law to disclose information (for example, a court order).
- Clinical supervision: I attend professional supervision to support best practice. Any material discussed is handled confidentially and your identity is protected as far as possible.
Where it is safe and appropriate, I will aim to discuss any concerns with you before taking action.
Sessions and how therapy works
Free 15-minute call (optional)
A short call to help you ask questions, understand how I work, and decide whether you’d like to book an initial session. This is not a therapy session.
Initial session
[50 minutes ]
We will explore what brings you to therapy, what support you are looking for, and whether I am the right fit for you. We will also cover practicalities such as confidentiality, cancellations, and consent.
Ongoing sessions
[50 minutes ], typically weekly (or at a pace we agree together).
Reviews
From time to time, we may review how therapy is going and whether any adjustments would be helpful (for example, focus, frequency, or goals).
Fees and payment
- Fees are discussed in advance (often during the 15-minute call or prior to the first session).
- Payment is due at the time of each session, unless agreed otherwise.
- Payment methods accepted: [bank transfer, cash or card ]
- Receipts are available on request.
If fees are changing for any reason, I will always aim to give notice in advance.
Cancellations and missed sessions
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice.
- Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed appointments (“no-shows”), may be charged at the full session rate, except in exceptional circumstances.
If you are unwell, experiencing an emergency, or something unexpected happens, please contact me as soon as you can and we will handle it reasonably.
Contact between sessions
I do not offer therapeutic support by email or phone between sessions.
You are welcome to contact me for practical matters (for example, scheduling, a change of appointment, or brief admin queries). I aim to respond within [1–2 working days ].
If you need urgent support, please use the crisis supports listed at the end of this page.
Online sessions
If we work online, sessions take place via [Zoom ].
Please ensure you have a private space, stable internet, and a way to maintain your confidentiality at your end.
Record keeping and data protection
I keep brief notes in line with professional and ethical requirements. These are stored securely and confidentially. For details on how your information is stored and your rights under data protection law, please see the Privacy Policy on this website.
Ending therapy
You are free to end therapy at any time.
Where possible, I recommend we have at least one planned ending session so we can reflect on the work and close in a supportive way. If therapy ends unexpectedly, you are welcome to contact me to arrange a final session.
Concerns or complaints
If you have any concerns about therapy, I encourage you to raise them with me directly so we can address them.
If you feel your concern has not been resolved, you may contact the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) regarding their complaints process.
Agreement
By booking a session, you confirm that you have read and understood these Therapy Terms & Policies. We will also discuss the key points in the first session, and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions.
